Rhapsody Of Fire

The band known until recently as Rhapsody (due to copyright infringement, they amended "Of Fire" to their name in 2006) has basically become synonymous with Italian metal, as these guys have provided the blueprint for any number of fellow Italians over the years, their brand of speed/power metal with intense keyboard-led song structures, bombastic arrangements and fantasy-based lyrical themes (really, taking influences such as Helloween and Blind Guardian to the next level) proving wildly popular in their homeland and elsewhere in Europe. Sure, the band has their share of detractors, who find the whole affair a bit over-the-top and cheesy, but there's no denying the musicianship and effort that they put into their works. With more than a decade on the scene, they show no signs of slowing down or, really, altering a formula that works for them.

In a confusing twist name-wise, the band has splintered into two factions as of August 2011, with core members Fabio Lione, Alex Staropoli, Alex Holzwarth and Tom Hess continuing as Rhapsody Of Fire, and guitarist Luca Turilli taking Patrice Guers and former guitarist Dominique Leurquin (and, initially, also Alex Holzwarth, so he was at one time in both bands) in a new project, taking the original name Rhapsody (officially, the band is going under the monicker Luca Turilli's Rhapsody).
