Nocturnus

Nocturnus was one of several standout Floridian death metal bands of the early 90's, but two attributes set them apart from their contemporaries, those being their science fiction-based lyrics and their incorporation of keyboards into their music. They recorded two successful albums (indeed, the debut, 1991's The Key, is still regarded as a seminal Floridian death metal classic), but stability was seemingly always in question, and by 1993 they were done. Around 1999 several of the guys got back together and released Ethereal Tomb in 2000 before fading away. Also around 1999, founding member Mike Browning put together a new band, initially entitled Nocturnus AD and later After Death. That band recorded several demos in the 2000's, and later in 2013 returned to the Nocturnus AD name, eventually releasing an album in 2019.
