Lacuna Coil

When Lacuna Coil entered the musical scene in the late nineties, comparisons to The Gathering were numerous and not unjustified, as Lacuna Coil's style is the same sort of laid-back, post-gothic metal that the Dutch band has made popular. As both bands mature, though, the similarities start to fade, particularly given the Gathering's more experimental recent works. Moreover, Lacuna Coil employs both male and female vocals, unlike the Gathering. The more recent albums such as Unleashed Memories and Comalies sees the Italians branching out on their own, not really making many wholesale changes to their sound, but maturing and developing as a unique band unto themselves. Comalies in particular turned out to be a massive hit for the Italians, and after a four-year wait, the highly-anticipated followup, Karmacode, has been released.
