Baest
Danish death metallers Baest (pronounced Beest? Bayst? Best?
the Internet seems divided on this)
came together in 2015 and rather quickly joined the
Century Media
roster, with a trio of albums and a couple of EPs released
as of this writing.
2021's
Necro Sapiens is the sort of album that,
while not flush with originality, just does everything
right.
It's classic Swedish-flavored death metal, not quite old-school
but clearly more inspired by the late-90's scene than some
of the more technical/dissonant bands currently in the death scene,
with crisp, crunchy riffing, solid vocals, a good variance of
mid-paced tempos with some speedier seconds, and a clean production.
Still a relatively young band, they've already climbed to the upper
echelon of Danish death metal.
