Axe Witch

From a metal standpoint, there wasn't a lot going on in Sweden in the early 80's, though a few bands, like Heavy Load, gained a bit of traction. Axe Witch came into being in 1979 and after a debut EP in 1982, released their best-known album, The Lord Of Flies, in 1983. Borrowing liberally from the NWOBHM style of the day, Flies is a solid if unspectacular album, the kind of album that 80's completists will want to seek out while modern metal fans aren't going to get too excited about. The band soldiered on for a couple more albums before breaking up in 1987. A largely original lineup came back together in 2007.
