Japan has produced several quality metal bands over the years in
a variety of genres, but thrash hasn't really been one of them.
Volcano opts to change that, their style being prime American-
influenced thrash (think bands like
Overkill or early
Metal Church,
with excellent solos and riffing from one She-Ja and competant
vocals from Nov, whose throaty growl might remind one of
Flemming Ronsdorf
(Artillery) or perhaps
Chris Boltendahl of
Grave Digger if he sang in a thrash band.
Violent, their debut, is solid throughout, energetic and
well-constructed thrash, really a bit of a surprise given their
relative lack of notoriety.
Thumbs up for thrash fans here, this is definitely a band on par
with anyone in their field.
