Urarv
Bjørn Dencker Gjerde (stage name Aldrahn) has been a notable member
of the Norwegian metal scene for years, best known for his
vocal work with
Dødheimsgard
as well as collaborating in
Thorns
and several other luminaries of the scene.
Urarv is his solo band, debuting in 2017 with
Aurum,
though the roots of some of the tracks here date back as far as
2003.
Aldrahn's distinctive, careening vocal style has served him well in the
past and it's even more at the forefront here, peppering the songs
with demented shrieks but also commanding a forceful presence.
Musically the songs borrow both from early Norwegian frostiness and
the more avantgarde style of DHG,
with enough twists and variations that clearly show Aldrahn as an
underrated black metal personality.
Hopefully there's more of this to come.
