Treponem Pal

Formed in 1986, Treponem Pal (named for the bacteria that causes syphilis) was one of the early pioneers in industrial metal, incorporating a harsh guitar sound, gruff vocals verging on hardcore, and a stark, industrial feel, giving them a style not too far removed from early Godflesh. They maintained this style up until Higher, by which time the focus had shifted towards sampling and electronics, giving that album a more techno feel, akin to the progression made by Pitchshifter at the time. By 1999 the band was done, with vocalist Marco Neves and other members later forming a band called Elephant System, apparently in the reggae/dub oriented field. Finally, Neves and samplist Didier Breard decided to reform Treponem Pal, with a new lineup and a new album, Weird Machine, released in early 2008. Two noted industrial metallists, Ted Parsons (Godflesh, Prong), and the late Paul Raven (Killing Joke, Ministry) were featured on the album.
