Stolen Babies

The End Records strikes again with another genre-defying band, in the form of California's Stolen Babies. Seemingly everyone who has ever commented on this band has a different description, from horror punk to "Oingo Boingo meets Cradle Of Filth" to cabaret metal to "the kind of band Tim Burton might like, if he were into metal". There's truth in all of those descriptions (additionally, one should probably add Mr. Bungle as an influence), and putting them all together might be the best way to comprehend what this strange band is all about. And yet, as odd as the image might be, these guys (and gal) aren't just randomly stringing bizarre influences together without sense -- the songs are cohesive and enjoyable. Frontwoman Dominique Persi (who also somehow incorporates an accordion to good effect) is a true star, with vocals ranging from a clear voice to vicious screams, but always in control and always interesting to listen to. Sure, Stolen Babies aren't going to be confused with a conventional metal band anytime soon, but even those who don't find the above description appealing might want to give this band a try. Certainly they're a perfect fit for The End Records.
