Sinphonia

Sinphonia is a Danish band whose second, 2002 effort The Divine Disharmony displays an intriguing blend of gothic and progressive metal, with perhaps an emphasis on the latter. Vocalist Monika Pederson (once with Sirenia) has a graceful, clear voice, though occasionally she drifts into a slightly more avant-garde style of singing, almost (but not quite) along the lines of former Atrox vocalist Monika Edvardsen (having the same first name, of course, is just a coincidence). The band balances grace and heaviness quite well, with a keen ear for interesting melodies -- this is a good effort for the gothic/progressive genre. As of this writing they may or may not still be active, though as late as 2007 they were looking for a record deal.
