Scariot
Scariot was formed by Daniel Olaisen in 1997
following a stint as a touring guitarist for
Satyricon.
Many have come and gone over the years, but nonetheless
three albums have been released, with 2003s
Strange To Numbers reviewed here.
Strange To Numbers is rooted in the sort of
dark, technically-minded power-thrash metal that
Nevermore
made famous
(perhaps a better comparison would be
Communic, since this albums vocalist, the superb Warrell Dane-ish
Oddleif Stensland, also fronts Communic).
For whatever reason this band isnt particularly well known,
which is a shame as there is serious talent on display here and
Numbers is truly an excellent album that Nevermore
fans (as well as other metallers) should enjoy.
At last count Scariot was essentially a solo studio project
for Olaisen, with the last album
featuring some high-profile players such as
Steve DiGiorgio
(
Sadus
and many others)
and Asgeir Mickelson
(
Spiral Architect),
and in fact the project is probably done at this point.
