Salem is one of the oldest bands from a young yet up-and-coming
Israeli metal scene, formed back in 1985 and recording sporadically
(four albums between 1992 and 2002, the most recent being
Collective Demise).
Musically they combine several traditional metal influences
(mostly a mid-paced thrashy semi-death mixture) with the occasional
ethnic influence and lyrics which concentrate on social, political
and religious issues, perhaps not suprising from a band from
Israel.
Collective Demise is an accomplished affair, quite well
executed, and well worth a listen.
