Revocation

These Bostonians formed in 2000 as Cryptic Warning, and released an album in 2005 (Sanity's Aberration) under that name. They decided something wasn't right, and changed name to Revocation, eventually attracting the interest of Relapse Records. As heard on 2009's Existence Is Futile, their style straddles the line between technical death and thrash (with perhaps a bit of melodeath thrown in as well), with plenty of inventive, technical riffing, harsh but not quite death vocals, and all around stellar musicianship. It's a pretty frenzied affair, but the band does a good job of keeping things in check, avoiding the tendency to jam too many riffs into a single song as many modern technical bands tend to do.
