Ras Algethi
Apparently named for the star now known as Alpha Herculis, this
obscure Italian combo released a single album in 1995 without a lot
of fanfare.
This is a fine example of atmospheric, minimalist doom metal, heavy on
feeling rather on crushing riffs.
The heavy use of keyboards often steers this into funeral doom territory,
though purists may not consider this band a true representation of that
style.
The vocals are often clean, sometimes chanted, though with tortured
distant screams scattered throughout as well.
It's a shame this album didn't get more acclaim at the time, as even with
extreme doom's limited popularity, this is a wondrous, emotionally
charged album that doom fans should easily take to.
