Rivers Of Nihil

Hailing from Pennsylvania, Rivers Of Nihil formed in 2009 and went the indie route for a time, releasing two EPs before signing to the everpresent Metal Blade label. By the time of 2015's Monarchy release the band was peaking squarely in the progressive/technical death metal camp, with harsh (and a bit one-dimensional) vocals overlaying some impressive riffing. By contrast, 2021's The Work reins in the chaos a bit -- there's still plenty of djenty harsh death to be had, but the songs are more diverse mood-wise and the complexity and pace are toned down a bit.
