Pathogen
Pathogen formed
in 1995 in the west coast of Australia, recording two demos
early on and then settling down for a good several years
recording their debut album,
Bloodline, released in 2005.
This was prime melodic death metal, with harsh vocals
(forceful, if one-dimensional) and
fine melodic riffing typical of the genre.
There were good ideas here and in general this was a solid release,
while on the other hand this wasnt going to convert fans that
arent into melodic death metal, since, even though they didnt
sound like any other one band specifically, their music was solidly
entrenched in melodic death and rarely strayed from those
boundaries.
An EP with a practically all-new lineup was released in 2009, and
in early 2011 band leader Aiden Barten announced he was breaking up
the band, citing that he could not keep the band going alongside his
studio business.
