Periphery

It's well established that Meshuggah is one of the seminal bands in the realm of djent, and while they still carry a fair bit of metal cred, djent in general has become quite a divisive term in the metal community, both from an is-it-good standpoint as well as a is-it-metal view. Periphery jump headlong into this controversy by humorously titling their 2023 album Djent Is Not A Genre, thus making mention of the term unavoidable. Regardless of the truth of that statement, there's plenty of djent rhythms here mixed in with technical wizardry, clean and harsh vocals, and dense, frequently changing riffs. As with a lot of tech bands, there's a tendency for songs to blend together, and that's certainly the case here. The band certainly has a large following, even garnering a Grammy nomination in 2016.
