In recent years many black metal bands have taken the genre to new
heights (notably by incorporating post-rock, ambient and atmospheric
influences), yet there's still no one doing quite like Finland's
bizarre combo Oranssi Pazuzu.
Albums such as 2011's Kosmonument and the excellent
2013 effort Valonielu see the band straddling the line between
black metal and psychedelia, with sprawling arrangements that seem
to drift endlessly yet never bore the listener.
Come 2016 and Värähtelijä continues and expands their style, perhaps
losing some black metal in the process
(save mainman Jun-His's raspy vocals) but gaining space/krautrock
stylings and an even greater sense of expanse.
Unquestionably one of the most unique black metal bands in existence,
even if that term is becoming less and less applicable here.
