Opprobrium

Back in the mid-eighties, brothers Francis and Moyses Howard emigrated from Brazil to Louisiana and formed a band called Incubus, releasing two albums in 1988 and 1990 before going on an extended hiatus. In the meantime, the rap-rock band Incubus rose to prominence, and so the Howard brothers decided to rename their band before returning to the scene, and thus Opprobrium was (re-)born. The 2000 album, Discerning Forces, is a prime slice of American death metal, owing a bit to the Florida bands of the early nineties. As with a lot of death metal bands, the originality factor isn't terribly high here, but the band is ferocious, and the album is very well produced, giving the songs an extra punch. They've recorded two albums since then, in 2008 and 2016.
