Opera Diabolicus

This project came about when two guys randomly met in 2006 and decided to pursue their common interest in a theatrical metal outfit. Both of their albums to date show the pair roping in plenty of guests to fill out the sound, including two heavy hitters in vocalist Mats Levén and drummer/instrumentalist Snowy Shaw. The name Opera Diabolicus is a pretty good indicator of the style within -- this is sprawling, epic, grandiose, symphonic, yet dark power/prog metal, with plenty of influences drawn from several bands and genres, including (to name two) touches of Levén and Shaw outfits like King Diamond and Therion. Clearly not a band that rushes things, as the first album took 6 years to come out and the followup almost a decade later. A solid recommendation for symphonic gothic metal aficionados.
