The Night Flight Orchestra

Certainly many an eyebrow was raised by an unsuspecting listener familiar with these guys' other bands after listening to a track or two here. Björn Strid has sung for a variety of far heavier bands than this (he's best known for his work in Soilwork), but none of those bands sound anything like the 80's synth-heavy arena rock that Night Flight Orchestra is going for. Apparently Strid and fellow Soilwork member David Andersson (now sadly deceased) decided to do something different, scratching a far different itch than their main band. Remarkably, not only do they do this style justice, NFO is not a one-off (which probably wouldn't have surprised anyone), but an ongoing and increasingly popular act in its own right. They play the style impeccably (and yet not sounding stale) and while it's unlikely that a ton of extreme metal fans will flock to this, that may not be the point -- they're doing what they want on their terms, and there's certainly plenty of fans of this style starved for new music.
