My Ruin is the latest venture of vocalist Tairrie B.,
an outspoken woman in the underground metal world.
Tairrie had a short run with her previous band, which released one
album as Manhole and then (due to a legal dispute with another
band of the same name) released a second as Tura Satana before
that band broke up.
My Ruin was then formed, initially as more of a Tairrie solo
band before
becoming a proper group.
Musically the band is a bit hard to pigeonhole -- Tairrie's vocals range
from spoken to gracefully melodic to aggressive screaming (she does
them all well) with the music occasionally showing flashes of the
rap-metal style from the Manhole days but more often resides in the
modern aggro-metal world, with no one band really a clear soundalike.
For whatever reason My Ruin has really yet to hit the big time in the
States (they have a stronger following overseas) -- on the strength
of their recent The Horror Of Beauty album, they deserve to be heard.
