Meathook Seed
Meathook Seed was conceived as a side project featuring
Napalm Death
guitarist Mitch Harris along with Donald Tardy and Trevor Peres
from
Obituary.
Harris is the main man behind the group's first album, 1993's
Embedded, with Peres (a guitarist in Obituary) taking the
vocal lead.
In the interim between that album and their second release six
years later, the Obituary boys were gone, with a new lineup in place
featuring (among others) another Napalm Death man in Shane Embury.
Embedded is a somewhat quirky release, sometimes described as
industrial death metal though it frequently
isn't quite traditional death metal
and the industrial influences are faint at best.
Harsh, driving, faintly hardcore-influenced metal might be a better
description, especially given Peres' hoarse singing.
The one oddball track is the 13+ minutes of "Sea Of Tranquility",
an ambient, sampling affair that has practically nothing in common
with the rest of the album -- interesting at times, a bit long though.
The project is no longer.
