Mercury Circle
Mercury Circle was founded by former
Swallow The Sun
keyboardist Jaani Peuhu in 2018, recruiting several
members from the Finnish rock/metal scene, including
those with ties to bands like
To/Die/For
and
Children Of Bodom.
An EP was released in 2020, generating sufficient buzz
to result in a highly anticipated full-length,
Killing Moons, in 2021.
Given the metal pedigree of the band members, the style
here is more metal-adjacent, a hybrid of Finnish goth rock,
dreamy darkwave, and a touch of doom.
The tracks range from more soundscape-ish fare to more
upbeat goth rock tunes like the addictive "Like Matches",
the BNR pick for best track.
The album is quite well developed and received plenty of
critical acclaim, though curiously four years later (i.e. as of
this writing) there hasn't been much recent new about the band
and their online profile is minimal, perhaps signalling
the band receding into the background if not disbanding.
