Jon Oliva's Pain
The mighty
Savatage
has lapsed into inactivity in recent years, with outside projects
such as the Trans-Siberian Orchestra and others taking front stage.
But Jon Oliva, always the heart and soul of Savatage, needed a
new outlet for his music, and so he formed Jon Oliva's Pain.
Oddly enough, the members he recruited to play with him also
once backed up another Savatage singer (Zach Stevens, in
Circle II Circle).
In any case, Oliva was off and running with his new band.
Basically, JOP provides the perfect fix for those wanting more
Savatage, as Oliva's ever distinctive and forceful vocals are
intact, and the music is more or less along the lines of mid-period
Savatage -- this isn't the rawness of, say,
Sirens, but it's a bit
harder than some of the more recent Savatage output.
And, really, no should have expected anything different -- Savatage
and Oliva have always been about class, and Jon Oliva's Pain
delivers exactly that.
