Diablo Swing Orchestra

Whew. The band name itself, coupled with the album and song titles, paint a pretty accurate picture of what this band is trying to accomplish. Expect the unexpected, one might say (a slight pun there, as Unexpect is occasionally referenced as being in the same ballpark). In a nutshell, you've got wonderful operatic female singing (male non-operatic vocals make a very scant appearance on the debut, somewhat more so on Sing Along Songs) atop quirky, avant-garde, kitchen-sink metal that throws as many disparate influences as possible -- jazz, swing, symphonic, flamenco, it's all in there somewhere. Think the stable of The End bands from a few years ago and you're on the right track. It's a wild ride, of course, with no shortage of ideas and twists and turns to keep things interesting, with the occasional lapse of cohesion. Now three albums in as of this writing, it looks like they've found their niche.
