Cynicon
Cynicon came into being around 2000, the band mutating from
a previous atmospheric black metal band called Solemn,
a band which also featured Paul Mozart Bjørke, later of
Madder Mortem.
Eventually the members wanted to attempt a more aggressive,
futuristic take on black metal, and so Cynicon was born.
Cybernetic, their 2003 debut release,
lives up to its name, the album being an
electronic-infused slice of modern black metal, not too
far removed from what
... And Oceans
was doing a short while ago.
It's not a perfect album (the production's a bit
sterile, and when the vocalist goes for the
King Diamond-inspired yelp,
it doesn't quite work),
but it's quite effective, and a recommended purchase
for those into the more techno-oriented side of black metal.
