An Abstract Illusion
An Abstract Illusion first full-length album,
2016's
Illuminate The Path, garnered quite a bit of
critical acclaim, but the trio seemingly outdid themselves
with the 2022 followup
Woe.
The band embody atmospheric progressive death metal like few can,
deftly balancing prog atmosphere and musicality with
deathy aggression and standout technicality, with
ehe songs seamlessly flucuating between quieter somber moments
and bursts of brutality.
While not directly sounding like anyone in particular, bands
such as
mid-period
Opeth
or perhaps
Ne Obliviscaris
come to mind as kindred spirits.
This is top-flight prog death done right.
