Shaman

Shaman was founded after the well-publicized split of the Brazilian metal band Angra, with the two guitarists recruiting a new Angra lineup and the other three forging a new band on their own. As a result, it's no surprise that their debut, 2002's Ritual, does bear a similarity to prime Angra, though in fact it's a bit heavier overall, owing more to Germanic power metal than melodic progressive metal as Angra is known for. A second album, Reason, was released in 2005, after which the band altered their name, deciding to proceed as Shaaman. A year later (October 2006), they announced their breakup, rumored to be caused by the usual personal/musical differences, but in 2007 drummer Ricardo Confessori recruited a new lineup, and the band (now back to their previous name Shaman) was back in action.
