Rotor

Rotor is an instrumental band from Berlin who have been around since 1998, releasing an album every few years or so and pretty much keeping to themselves. Reviewed here is their most recent to date, Fünf (that's 5 in German, as indeed it's their fifth studio album), and here the band plays a relaxed style of vaguely progressive, somewhat stoner-ish jammy instrumental rock (apparently their earlier efforts are a bit more in the heavy psych department), with plenty of nice groove and not too much flash. Occasionally this might remind one of recent Kong, though the two bands' histories aren't very similar. The songs benefit by not sounding too similar to each other, giving the album a nice overall pace. This band flies pretty far under the metal radar but instrumental fans would do well to give them a listen.
