Power Of Omens

Though major success ultimately eluded them, Power Of Omens showed a great deal of promise during their dozen-year career. Their 1998 debut, Eyes Of The Oracle, was influenced by the usual suspects (Dream Theater, Fates Warning, Queensryche, the latter due mostly to vocalist Chris Salinas' striking similarity to Geoff Tate), though the album is both more melodic and more technical than most of the work by the aforementioned bands. A criticism of technical bands such as this is that the musicianship sometimes gets in the way of the songs, and Power Of Omens occasionally (but not often) fell into that trap. But the songs flow well, the musicianship is truly top-notch, and this is really a professional-sounding album, made all the more remarkable as it's their debut. For melodic progressive metal fans, this was a solid choice.

The band released a second album, Rooms Of Anguish, in 2003, but were plagued by lineup problems ever since, eventually leading to their breakup in September 2005.
