Powerman 5000

Being the little brother of an established rock star is a mixed blessing. Sure, your band might get more exposure and a second chance look where others might not, but the criticisms can be harsher, and it's that much harder to establish your own identity when you're constantly compared to your brother. Such was the case for Powerman 5000, featuring Rob Zombie's brother Mike "Spider" Cummings on vocals. In their formative years the band gained a pretty good following due to their high-energy videos and techno/electronic-laced nu-metal, music that, yes, could be compared to prime Zombie at times. By 1998, bolstered by their most popular album yet (Tonight The Stars Revolt), things were really looking up for the band. But by 2001 their fortunes had changed, with the recording of an album (Anyone For Doomsday?) that was scrapped at the last minute, apparently because both label and band were unhappy with the results (the album was eventually released). It would not be until spring of 2003 that a completely re-recorded new album, with a new rhythm section, was released, entitled Transform. That album, and the more recent Destroy What You Enjoy, mark a noticeable shift for Powerman 5000, shedding much of the techno flavorings for a punkier, rockier feel.
