Narnia  


Swedish hard rockers Narnia started as a more of a project than a band, as the first album, Awakening, was recorded as a duo (with guitarist Carljohan Grimmark playing all instruments and Christian Liljegren singing). They expanded to a proper five-piece shortly thereafter, and have since released several similar albums, all in the neoclassical melodic hard rock arena, highlighted by Grimmark's Yngwie Malmsteen-esque guitarwork (flashier on the earlier albums, somewhat toned down on Desert Land) and the melodic vocals of Lilgegren, likened by some to Don Dokken. Though a bit on the safe and unadventurous side, it's well done for its style. Some are put off by the rather overt Christian lyrics, though there are certainly preachier bands out there. Far from the heaviest band in existence, they were nonetheless fine in the melodic hard rock field. They announced their plans to break up in April 2010, with their final shows taking place in December.
