Masterplan  


Masterplan is a European power metal super-group of sorts, with its members previously spending time in such bands as Helloween, Iron Savior, Ark, and Sinner, among others. Their self-titled debut album is a potent slice of Euro melodic power metal, though given that the guitarist (Roland Grapow) served major time in Helloween, the style is less the happy speed metal of that band than one might expect, as it's really more rooted in hard rock and 80's melodic metal. Vocalist Jørn Lande has excelled in every band he's been in, and he's in top form here as well. The songs vary enough from each other to give the album a fair sense of diversity. and while this isn't a cutting-edge sound, it's done well enough to disregard criticisms of heard-it-before. After the group released its second album, Aeronautics, in 2005, Lande and drummer Uli Kusch left the group, but capable replacements were found, in the form of Riot frontman Mike DiMeo and drummer Mike Terrana, who's played with all sorts of bands in recent years.
