Ministry  


Widely regarded as one of the pioneers in industrial metal, Ministry has gradually become more metal and less industrial, particularly when comparing an early album such as The Land Of Rape And Honey with their more recent releases. The true Ministry sound didn't materialize immediately, as With Sympathy is a synth/pop album, very unlike anything else the band did, and the followup Twitch really more early industrial than metal. By 1989 the trademark blend of metal and industrial was in place, as heard on A Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste, the bands' first big hit and still a favorite of many. The band (mostly a cadre of secondary musicians surrounding the core of Allen Jourgenson and Paul Barker) had its ups and downs over the years, with their popularity tailing off somewhat as the nineties came to an end. But Jourgenson rebounded, and with Barker no longer at his side, the 21st century version of Ministry seemed rejuvenated, with their recent releases such as Houses Of The Molé and Rio Grande Blood being every bit classic Ministry albums, with frequent nods to their past work without relapsing into rehashing old songs -- arguably the band's best works in quite some time.

Jourgenson stated that the band's 2007 album, The Last Sucker, essentially completes a trilogy of like-minded albums focusing on the Bush administration, woould be the last proper Ministry studio album, as he wished to pursue other interests. Eventually guitarist Mike Scaccia persuaded him to give it one more go, and so there will be at least one more album (currently scheduled for a March 2012 release), though Jourgenson insists that will really be the last.
