Leather Nun
"Leather Nun?", I asked myself when a new album by said band
appeared on the metal radar.
Weren't they some sort of 80's goth band?
As it turns out, my memory wasn't far off, as Leather Nun was
indeed a cult Swedish goth/garage/punky band during the 80's,
but this San Diego trio is not related to that group in any way.
This is prime garage doom along the lines of
Spirit Caravan,
which makes some sense as leader John Sarnie grew
up in the Maryland area, home of Wino and the infamous
DC doom scene.
In fact, this is more than a vague similarity, as Sarnie
has Wino's voice and riffs nailed to a T.
Since around 2008 the official band name is Leather Nun America,
presumably changed for legal reasons.
