King's X
With their highly unique blend of traditional metal rhythms and
extensive vocal harmonies (often referred to as Beatles-esque),
Kings X have carved a nice career for themselves, releasing
critically-acclaimed albums, garnering a loyal fan base, but never
really approaching superstardom, which is probably just fine with
the band.
Apart from bands directly influenced by them (for example,
Galactic Cowboys),
there really isn't anyone who really sounds like Kings X
at all, which is quite a notable achievement.
The band keeps quite busy, both with touring/recording here as well
as numerous solo albums and side projects, among them
Platypus (featuring a couple of
Dream Theater
members), Poundhound, Jelly Jam (another DT collaboration), and
Supershine
(Doug teaming up with two guys from
Trouble).
