Kapel Maister

This somewhat odd Argentinian band had a sound that is easily described -- neoclassical power metal fronted by not one, but two true soprano female operatic vocalists. Does it work? It's hard to say, since, even though the pieces are in place (the vocalists are quite talented, and guitarist Gonzalo Solgarian is truly gifted, in the Yngwie Malmsteen mold), the end result is a mixed bag. Nightwish has shown that operatic vocals can work in metal, but here it seems a bit more forced, and the songs are at times too classical, often little more than a showcase for Solgarian and the (uncredited?) keyboardist, and at other times really rather un-metallic. It's also not clear why both vocalists are necessary, since often only one sings and one would be hard-pressed to tell the two voices apart. So, mark this band as somewhat of an oddity, certainly of interest to those into the neoclassical side of metal.
