Flowing Tears

This German band, who released their first few releases under the
longer name Flowing Tears And Withering Flowers, is one of the
better bands currently operating under the gothic rock/metal
banner.
Stylistically they might remind one of late-period
The Gathering,
though vocalist Stefanie Duchêne's rich, emotive vocals are not
of the soprano variety, but a mid-range similar to Agnete Kirkevaag
of
Madder Mortem or Mariana Holmberg of
Left Hand Solution.
The songs flow (no pun intended) nicely, expressing melancholy
and sadness but never depressing or dreary.
Serpentine, their latest release, is a mature, expressive gothic
metal, highly recommended.
In January of 2003, Duchêne decided to amicably leave the band for
personal reasons, a move that might have been a serious blow to the
band as her vocals were one of the cornerstones of the band's
grace and style.
But a replacement was found, in the person of Helen Vogt, and
in 2004 the new album Razorbliss was released.
Vogt fills Duchêne's shoes admirably, and the band follows suit,
as Razorbliss is a fine followup album to
Serpentine.
