Eyehategod

Eyehategod specialize in sludgy doom spiked with anguished hardcore vocals, perhaps the best personification of the style of metal eminating from the New Orleans area over the years. The band has endured a rather turbulent career, having been reported as breaking up and reforming often ever since the 1996 release of their seminal Dopesick album. They'd been quiet during the 2000's (hurricane Katrina no doubt was a factor), but they managed to come back together in 2014 to release a well-received self-titled effort.
