Extrema
This Milanese band
has had a lengthy career spanning well over two decades, but
the only album reviewed here is 2009's
Pound For Pound, which, while
recent, may not be a good representation of their past style.
Anyway, this album is frequently reviewed with phrases like "returning
to their thrash roots", and while there are modern thrash elements here,
this is not traditional thrash and nowhere near the retro thrash style
currently making the rounds.
Additionally, their mid-career albums ventured into nu-metal territory,
and again, that's not directly heard here, but one can here some of
those influences.
Basically, this is aggressive, modern, groove-thrash, at times in the
Pantera
mold
(the vocalist doesn't match Anselmo either in quality or style, but he's in
the same ballpark) though far from a clone.
Rather atypical for an Italiam metal band, given that country's usual
fondness for all things symphonic or power-metal-oriented.
