Evergrey  


Sweden's Evergrey has been receiving standout reviews ever since their debut in 1998, and with their fourth album, 2003's Recreation Day, they show no sign of slowing down. Their style is a solid power/progressive metal blend (think, perhaps, recent Savatage), combining crunchy guitarwork, excellent vocals from Tom Englund, and smart melodies from keyboardist Rikard Zander. The progressive leanings are slight (this is not a show-off tech band), but they do present themselves on occasion. Evergrey expertly combine melody and power together, such that both are at the fore but neither overpowering the other, and their classiness, maturity, and professionalism shine. Prog/power metal fans will unquestionably rate Evergrey amongst the best in their field.
