Ektomorf  


According to several published reviews, this Hungarian band's fifth album (2004's Destroy) can be summed up in two words -- "Soulfly clone". And yes, that's pretty much the story here, with the downtuned guitar tone, the song structures, and Zoltan Farkas' vocals all strongly reminiscient of Max Cavalera's gang. As such, Ektomorf won't score originality points, and although they do the style pretty effectively, they lack the breadth and ethnic influences that Soulfly brings to the table (though there are scant traces of an Eastern European influence, notably on "From Far Away"). Yet this is no upstart band, as apparently the group have been around for some time, releasing no less than four albums (presumably only in their native country or thereabouts) from 1996 to 2002 -- whether those previous albums are of a similar style or not is unclear.
