Circus Maximus
Melodic progressive metal may have peaked a few years ago
(it just seems like there were more bands playing the style in,
say, the late nineties), but it's still a viable musical genre,
particularly when played well.
Circus Maximus is a new Norwegian band looking to make their
mark on the scene.
The influences and soundalikes are familiar (bands like
Dream Theater
and
Symphony X
come to mind), and while these guys aren't in the superstar
category, all the pieces are in place, from expert musicianship
that isn't overdone, to solid production efforts, and a standout
vocalist in Michael Eriksen.
The 1st Chapter is a solid debut effort, and Circus Maximus
look set to challenge
Pagan's Mind
for the title of Norway's top prog metal band.
