Aria  


Aria has been one of Russia's most popular metal bands for almost two decades, having formed in 1985 and still going strong in 2003 and beyond. Due to their singing entirely in Russian, they have made few appearances outside their homeland and have really never been well known away from Russia. Musically it's plain that Iron Maiden is a prime influence, almost to the point of cloning on several of the mid-period albums (except vocally, as the vocalist isn't a wailer like Bruce), though they do the style quite well. Until very recently there had been relatively few lineup changes, though several members from the early lineups broke off to form Master (coincidentally, one of the Master guitarists recently arrived here in Aria). An interesting note is that they were at one time (and may still be) sponsored by Harley Davidson, explaining the tribute EP released in 1999. They've also are associated with a video game called Rig N' Roll, recording the soundtrack to that game in 2001.
