Andromeda  


Based on their debut album, Extension Of The Wish, Sweden's Andromeda must be considered among the elite in progressive metal. All the usual superlatives apply here -- a flawless production, intricate and varied songwriting, and stunning musicianship, particularly from guitarist Johan Reinholdz, a rising guitar virtuoso. Guest vocalist Lawrence Mackrory (once in Darkane, though he sounds nothing like his work there) also deserves accolades, with a clear yet powerful voice that never succumbs to pointless wailing like some of his contemporaries. This is one of the classiest bands to emerge in some time, and a sure bet to please any progressive metal fan. The band has since followed up their debut with two more albums (most recently, Chimera), as well as a re-recorded version of Extension with new vocals and two new songs, entitled Final Extension.
