As I Lay Dying  

Thrashy, crunchy metalcore is the order of the day from this San Diego band who has risen to the upper levels of the genre. Now four albums in with 2007's An Ocean Between Us, everything is in place -- clean and core vocals, speedy, crunchy riffs, a stellar production, this is what modern metalcore is all about. Vocalist Tim Lambesis also has a solo project, the humorous crossover act Austrian Death Machine.
