40 Grit

Hailing from San Francisco, 40 Grit was one of several bands
playing a style quite representative of late-nineties American
metal.
Heads, their 2000 debut, features a touch of early
Korn-styled
downtuning and a bit of nu-metal, though the overall feel is
heavier than what such a description might suggest.
A frequent comparison is neighbors
Machine Head,
though 40 Grit are more jumpy and
groove-oriented, and far less thrashy, than Robb Flynn's group.
James Santiago's aggressive vocals are perfect for this form of
music, and there's a fair degree of depth in the songwriting.
The band released a second album,
Nothing To Remember, in 2003,
but announced their breakup in January 2004, citing disgust
with the music business.
